What the Fix Involves
Most houses in Pea Ridge were built in the late 1990s, which lines up with the broader area's 1987-2013 build window centered on 1997. That generation of door came with galvanized aircraft cable on a drum system, sized to the door weight and spring rate set at install. The fix is a cable swap to matching gauge and length, a check of the drum and pulley it rides on for wear grooves, and a re-balance of the door once the new cable is seated - skip that last step and you've just set up the next failure. On these newer-build doors we're not usually fighting obsolete hardware the way you would on an older house; the drums and pulleys are standard sizes and we carry the common cable gauges on the truck. Where it gets slower is if the cable snapped because a pulley seized or a bracket bent, which happens more on doors that have gone a decade or more without anyone touching the hardware.
How Long You Are Without the Door
A straight cable replacement with no spring involvement and no bent hardware is usually finished within the hour once the truck is on site. Add the 9-mile drive from Rogers and you're looking at most of a morning or afternoon block from the call to the door closing right, not an emergency same-minute fix. If the cable broke while the spring was under load, or a drum has worn enough to need replacing along with it, that adds time on site but not usually a second visit - we carry the parts for standard drum systems on the truck.
The Complications
The complication we see most on doors from this build era isn't the cable itself, it's what the cable was hiding. A cable doesn't usually snap on its own - it frays against a misaligned drum, a bent track, or a pulley that's been seizing for months. Replace the cable without checking those and you're back out here in a few weeks for the same failure. The other wrinkle: on a two-car door with two cables, if one side broke from age, the other side is the same age and under the same wear. We'll flag it rather than replace one and leave the other to fail during the next cold snap, since this part of Arkansas runs a moderate cold climate band and temperature swings add stress to hardware that's already marginal.
How to Book
We cover Pea Ridge out of Rogers, about 9 miles south, along with the rest of the towns on that side of the service area. Call and describe what the door is doing - whether it's stuck down, hanging crooked, or still moving but dragging a loose cable - and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a same-visit fix or something that needs a look first. You can see the rest of what we cover on the Pea Ridge service area page, and if cable repair in Rogers itself is what you're after, that's a separate page.
